About Us

Cotter Schools is an international learning community guided by faith since 1911 where character, personal development, and academic achievement inspire a world of possibilities.

Cotter Schools - comprised of Cotter Junior High and Cotter High School - serves motivated and engaged students in grades 7 through 12. Over 350 students from the city of Winona, Minnesota, the towns surrounding Winona, and from 12 countries around the world engage in rigorous academic study, faith-centered experiences, and personally enriching athletic and arts activities - all with one goal in mind: that each student discover and to develop their fullest potential!

We are Cotter! For members of the Cotter community, this treasured expression means - we are one - we believe in each other - we are family!

In June 2014, Cotter Schools was granted reaccreditation status through AdvancEd.

AdvancEd is a consortium of educational institutions that provides accreditation and consultative services to accredited schools and school systems. AdvancEd is the world's largest educational community, representing over 23,000 public and private schools and districts in 30 states and 65 countries and serving nearly 15 million students.

To be accredited, the system must:
  1. Meet the AdvancEd Accreditation Standards for Quality School Systems and ensure that all schools meet the AdvancEd Standards for Quality Schools.
  2. Engage in continuous improvement.
  3. Demonstrate quality assurance through external review.
