We are located on the second floor of Saint Teresa Hall. The center is open to all students at Cotter. To accommodate individual needs, appointments may be made through the counseling secretary (453-5027 or ). Personal issues, high school planning, post-high school plans, tests, financial aid, and transcripts may be discussed with the counselors. Parents are also welcome to consult with the counselors.

Students are assigned an academic counselor, based on the initial of their last name. The counselor follows the student's academic progress, makes sure they have the required courses for graduation, provides help with course selection, and will provide them assistance with their post-secondary plans.

Mission Statement

The Cotter High School Guidance Department seeks to assist in the promotion of excellence through guidance services.

Vision

Our vision for the guidance department is to have a comprehensive guidance program for grades 7-12. Components to be included are: personal and social development, career development and educational development.

Goals

To have all students feel respected and welcomed to seek guidance services;

To provide individual counseling and planning sessions with students and parents to assist the student:
-to understand him/herself and his/her opportunities,
-to make appropriate adjustments and decisions in light of this understanding,
-to accept the responsibility for this choice, and
-to follow a course of action in harmony with this choice;

To provide: small group counseling sessions; classroom presentations on critical issues; parent and teacher consultations and support;

To assist in educational programming which will enable the student to meet graduation requirements and meet individual goals;

To assist the student with post-secondary planning and filing of applications and documents required by the post-secondary institution;

To administer educational testing and explain the results to students;

To manage and maintain student records and files;

To manage and maintain college/career information center;

To arrange career and college speakers and information.
