Congratulations to Cotter choir members Cindy Li, Ben Matzke, Joe Nagel, Cecelia Welch and Daniel Wuxihong for being selected to participate in this year’s Dorian Choir Festival at Luther College in Decorah, IA. The festival runs from January 14th -15th. The two day choral festival is considered the largest mass choir festival of its kind in the country. The students spend two days rehearsing their music with approximately 1200-1400 other high school singers from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota and Illinois. The festival culminates with the Dorian Grand Concert on Monday, January 15th featuring the Dorian Festival Choir, Dorian Chamber Choir, the Luther College Nordic Choir, and five selected outstanding soloists. At last year’s 2017 Dorian Choir festival, Ben Matzke was named a semi-finalist in the soloist competition. Only 20 students are named semi-finalists out of nearly 400 students participating in the soloist competition. The Dorian Grand Concert will be held at the Luther College Center for Faith and Life at 7:00 PM Monday, January 15, 2018.
As part of the Dorian Choir Festival, the participating high school student singers will also attend a concert on Sunday evening, January 14th featuring the Luther College “Norsemen” (Luther college freshmen men’s chorus) and “Aurora” (Luther college freshmen women’s chorus) and a guest high school choir. Ryan Ortega, Cotter class of 2017, is a member of the Luther College Norsemen Choir.
