German Police Officers Visit

A group of German Police Officers visited with Mrs. Schorn-Hoffert's 7th hour German class. The Winona Police Department is involved an exchange program with the Bersenbrück Police Department. The program has been going strong for almost 30 years! The German visitors come every 4 years to New Ulm and Winona, and the Winona participants make a return visit in the off years. The visiting officers also make it a point to speak to our German language students.

On September 11, six (6) officers from Germany and several Winona police officers who host them spoke to our students. Topics addressed and questions asked by students and by the officers touched on police uniforms, driving and speed limits, traffic rules, gun safety and control, safety in schools, privacy rights, immigrant situation in Europe, German education system and college preparation, motivation for language learning, how people like to spend their free time (sports, hobbies). It was a very informational meeting which was enjoyed by the students and officers alike!
