Our students traveled to Minneapolis for a weekend service trip. Here are a few pictures from their trip. The group stayed at the Russ Ewald Center for Service. Friday night they played games and got to know each other better. They also participated in a "Poverty Simulation" to try to understand urban poverty. It was a great learning experience and opened their eyes to the challenges many families face every day.
The students volunteered at the House of Charity homeless shelter in Minneapolis. They deep cleaned the cafeteria where 5 meals are served daily. They also donated supplies and made 100 hygiene kits for people who are homeless when they come to House of Charity for a shower.
For fun, they visited the Midtown Global Market twice and had their choice of food from 18 different countries. Everyone tried the bubble tea. They also saw a high school Marimba Band perform as well as a group celebrating "Dia De Los Muertos."
On Saturday afternoon, the group volunteered at Feed My Starving Children. Mrs. Corcoran's family joined the group to volunteer that day. For their last service experience, they served two meals at different places. Students prepared and served the food, cleaned the tables and made PB and J sandwiches for people to take when they left.
