Clarissa Sauer earns Daily News Player of the Year

When her junior season began, Cotter’s Clarissa Sauer knew all eyes would be on her.

As a sophomore, Sauer went from coming off the bench the prior season to a starring role and may have shocked other teams, particularly early in the year. But this winter, that element of surprise was gone.

“This year, from the first game, everybody knew that was the player you have to stop on Cotter. For her to be able to average that kind of points under that circumstance is amazing,” head coach Pat Bowlin said.

Sauer responded to the extra attention by scoring at an even higher rate than she did the year prior, helping the Ramblers to a deeper playoff run as well, earning herself the Winona Daily News Player of the Year award for the 2023-24 girls basketball season.
